What a Confirmation Actually Is

When you send Bitcoin, the transaction first sits in the mempool — a public waiting room of unconfirmed payments. A miner then includes it in a block: that's confirmation one. Every block mined after it adds another confirmation, and each one buries your transaction deeper in the chain's history, making it exponentially harder to reverse.

So when the casino cashier says "2 of 3 confirmations," nothing is stuck. Your money is on the chain; the casino is simply waiting for the network to make its arrival mathematically final before turning it into chips.

Why Casinos Won't Credit at Zero

An unconfirmed transaction is a promise, not a payment. Until it's in a block, a sender can broadcast a conflicting transaction that spends the same coins elsewhere — the classic double-spend. And even one confirmation isn't absolute: occasionally the network briefly produces two competing versions of the chain, and when one wins, a block from the losing side gets orphaned in a small reorg, unwinding the transactions inside it.

For a business that converts your deposit into instantly spendable balance, that's real fraud exposure. Waiting for roughly three confirmations makes a reversal practically impossible, which is why some threshold is an industry norm rather than one operator's quirk. It's the same reason exchanges make you wait — the casinos in our ranking differ mainly in how transparently they show the progress.

How Long the Wait Is, Coin by Coin

The wait is the number of confirmations multiplied by the coin's block time — and both vary:

  • Bitcoin — ~10-minute blocks; at 1–3 confirmations, expect ten minutes to an hour, longer when the mempool is busy.
  • Litecoin — 2.5-minute blocks; even several confirmations clear in five to fifteen minutes. Details in our Litecoin guide.
  • Ethereum and ERC-20 stablecoins — seconds-long slots with fast finality; casinos usually credit within a few minutes. See the Ethereum guide.
  • Tron and Solana — blocks arrive in seconds; deposits typically show up in under a couple of minutes even with a confirmation buffer.

Casinos also scale requirements with amount — a very large deposit may wait for extra confirmations regardless of coin, again as reorg insurance.

Stuck in the Mempool? Fee Bumps and RBF

The slow part of a Bitcoin deposit is usually confirmation zero — getting into a block at all. Miners pick the best-paying transactions first, so a lowball fee on a congested day can leave you queued for hours. Three tools fix or prevent that:

  • Pick the right fee up front. Good wallets show priority tiers with time estimates; for a casino deposit, choose the tier targeting the next block or two. On small deposits the difference is cents.
  • RBF (replace-by-fee). If your wallet sent the transaction with RBF enabled, you can rebroadcast the same payment with a higher fee and jump the queue — look for "increase fee" or "speed up" in the transaction view.
  • CPFP (child pays for parent) — the fallback when RBF is off: a follow-up transaction with a generous fee incentivizes miners to confirm both together. Some wallets automate this behind the same "speed up" button.

None of these help after the first confirmation — from there, the remaining wait is just block time, and no fee can hurry it. And one reassurance while you wait: a transaction sitting in the mempool can't vanish into thin air. Either it confirms eventually, or it drops back out and the coins remain yours — you can watch the whole process live by pasting your TXID into any block explorer, which beats refreshing the cashier page.

Or Skip the Wait Entirely

The confirmation wait is mostly a Bitcoin-on-chain problem. If ten anxious minutes before every session annoy you, change the route rather than fighting the queue: Litecoin cuts the wait to minutes, stablecoins on Tron or Solana to seconds, and Lightning removes it altogether where supported.
